Editing Services

The editing process can be mystifying and frustrating for any author, but I am committed to building respectful and collaborative relationships with my clients. All my editing services aim to help you elevate your content and language so that you can have confidence and pride in your manuscript.

  • Manuscript Report

Be it a short story or novel, essay or memoir, I’ll evaluate the effectiveness and readability of your entire manuscript, providing easy-to-follow guidance for taking it to the next level.

  • Line Editing

When you’re confident in your story, I’ll help you strengthen the prose, dialogue, characterisation, and theme, as well as iron out any weaknesses in voice, style, and plot.

  • Copy Editing

When you have a strong final draft, I’ll fix any writing errors (spelling, grammar, punctuation, and usage) and give your writing a final polish so that the prose shines.

Lorna’s writing support has been invaluable. Her input has ranged from highly detailed copy edits, with suggested changes that much improve flow and meaning, through to big-picture critique of story structure, theme, and philosophy. Talking through a piece with Lorna always expands my writing senses and introduces new ideas.
— Dan O.

Self-Editing Support

In addition to my professional editing services, I offer various resources and programmes for writers who are embarking on the self-editing process or seeking to improve their self-editing skills.

  • One-Page Insights

Free, downloadable resources providing bite-sized nuggets of writing and editing guidance. Check back regularly to see what’s new in the growing collection.

  • The Writers Workshop

I offer online masterclasses and in-person Writing Workouts at The Writers Workshop in Sheffield. Visit the Workshop’s events page to find out what I’m doing.

  • Mentoring

I offer one-to-one mentoring for fiction writers interested in developing their self-editing skills, working on either a short story or a key scene from a novel.

  • MS Revision Support

I offer a package of support to writers who have a complete draft of a manuscript that they want to revise with professional guidance while developing their self-editing skills.

I was delighted with both Lorna’s feedback on my work and our subsequent online discussion. Her professional insight is first class, and I was particularly impressed by her ability to pick up on the tone of the writing and voice of the character, while helping me ditch the superfluous for the impactful.
