Lorna Partington

I am an editor based in Sheffield, England. I have been a full-time wordsmith since 2012. Having completed a Professional Certificate in Editing at UC Berkeley Extension, I was asked by the then-head of the Extension’s writing programme to copy edit the school’s new literary journal and — BAM! — my editing business was born. Eleven years on, it’s still going strong.

Once upon a long ago, I obtained a degree in English Literature at the University of Sheffield. However, I then spent my early career focusing on a different form of storytelling: film. I worked with the British Film Institute, a regional film agency, and the California Film Institute, supporting independent cinema exhibition and community film production.

I lived in California for ten years. During that time, I returned to literature and developed my creative writing skills with the San Francisco Writers Grotto and UC Berkeley Extension Creative Writing Program, and I set up a long-running writers group.

When I quit working in the nonprofit sector, I retrained as a copy editor and set up shop. Clients, past and present, include Darling Magazine, Business Ghost, Amplify Publishing, Best Seller Publishing, Valley Press, and Made in LA Writers. I also work with independent writers.

I am also a writer in my spare time. My work has been published in print and online by Five Stop Story, Twisted Tales, Running Wild Press, and F(r)iction, and one story was nominated for the prestigious Pushcart Prize. My stories have also featured in performances by feminist theatre company Scary Little Girls.

Currently, I have three novels at various stages of completion, one of which won the Off the Shelf Literature Festival Novel Slam pitch contest in October 2022.

Other than correcting my awful spelling, Lorna clarified my words, strengthened my meaning, and cut out needless drivel, all whilst maintaining my voice. It has been both a learning curve and a privilege working with her.
